Project

One of our biggest clients is the Directorate of Roads and Motorways.

Client needs

The client's need was to speed up and digitize the maintenance process of areas around roads and highways.

Therefore, we designed a robust solution in the form of an information system and a mobile application for tablets with iOS information system, in which a modern combination of a map application, the use of automated photography based on the location of the device and the subsequent transfer of data to the information system was able to meet the task to the satisfaction of the client. In addition to the benefits of digitisation - i.e. elimination of paperwork, quick and easy overview of maintenance status, recording of contracts and creation of tender documents - the project has succeeded in completing the green passport, unifying the methodology for maintenance of areas and, last but not least, helping to optimise the costs of this agenda.

Our solution

Resolve the underlying data in the form of data on green areas around motorways and class I roads and the methodology of maintenance itself.

The data is called a green passport and carries information about the location of a particular area, what is growing on it, when the last maintenance was carried out or when the next maintenance is scheduled. The moment we had the background work done, it was time for the actual implementation. This started with the creation of the information system, which, like most of the IS we create, was developed in PHP on the Czech Nette framework in combination with a Linux server pro-center. For the database we chose SQL approach in the form of MariaDB. Workers have tablets placed in their vehicles so that they have a view of their surroundings.

IS for the least administrative burden on staff.

In addition to the usual user agenda or access rights, the IS makes the work of maintenance staff very easy. For example, it allows to automatically generate the maintenance plan for the following year, contains control mechanisms or is connected to other client systems. - For example, to the work registration system, the accounting system or the file services and documentation warehouses.

Final result

The result of our work is a robust solution to the extensive environmental management agenda of site maintenance.

Back-end We wrote the application in the native Swift language. The application communicates with the backend through an API interface. The tablets have SIM cards and are therefore connected to the Internet. However, on some sections, there is not enough signal to transmit larger data and hence the application also allows additional data sending on user's instruction.

Mobile applications The mobile app solved the problem of collecting maintenance data very quickly and elegantly. Workers have the tablets placed in their vehicles so that they have a view of their route. When the app is switched on, the moment a worker arrives at a section that needs to be checked, it automatically starts taking photo documentation based on the GPS location and prepares a report. The data on individual sections is provided by a link to the land registry.

Final implementation The solution met the client's requirements, and the portability of our solution allows us to offer this system to other entities that take care of areas that need regular maintenance, such as municipalities or city districts. By nature, this is a non-public system.
